Death of a Salesman

by Arthur Miller

A classic American story — seen through a more contemporary lens.

Traveling salesman Willy Loman has spent his life believing that success comes from being well-liked, working hard, and never giving up on the promise of the American Dream. But as the pressures of career, family, and identity collide, Willy is forced to confront difficult truths about the choices he has made — and the expectations he has placed on those he loves.

In this Pullman Civic Theatre production, the story is set in the early 2000s, a time of shifting economic realities, evolving definitions of success, and growing questions about what it really means to build a meaningful life. Though the setting moves forward in time, the heart of the story remains unchanged: a deeply human exploration of ambition, family, pride, and the longing to be seen and valued.

Arthur Miller’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play continues to resonate because it asks questions many of us still wrestle with today:
What does success really look like?
What do we owe our families — and ourselves?
And how do we measure a life well lived?

This powerful drama invites audiences to reflect on connection, expectation, and compassion — reminding us that behind every résumé is a person trying to matter.
